Attio + ChatGPT: the CRM in the window your team already has open
Last updated 17 August 2026 · Nacho Lafuente, Attio Certified Partner
Half your team has ChatGPT open all day and the CRM closed all day. Connecting the two takes a couple of minutes. The reason to do it with ChatGPT specifically is not that it is better than the alternatives. It is that it is already installed on everyone's machine, and the best CRM workflow is the one that lives in the window people are already looking at.
How to Connect Attio to ChatGPT (Both Methods)
Direction
ChatGPT ↔ Attio (read and write, via connector)

The what
What this changes, and what it does not
The how
How to connect it
- 1
Open ChatGPT, go to Settings, then Connectors (called Apps on some plans).
- 2
Search for Attio and connect. You are redirected to Attio to sign in and authorize.
- 3
Read the access screen. You are pointing a chat window at your customer data, and the grant persists across every future conversation.
- 4
Test with something you already know the answer to, so you can tell whether it is reading your workspace or improvising.
- 5
Alternative path: start from Attio, go to Apps and Integrations, find ChatGPT, and connect from there.
- 6
Write the team prompts once, save them as a custom GPT or saved prompts, and share those. Otherwise everyone asks a slightly different question and gets a slightly different answer.
Under the hood
The four prompts that get a team to adopt it
- Log without opening the CRM: "Here is what happened on the call, put it on the right record." A rep who will not open the CRM will paste three lines into a chat window. That is the whole adoption problem in one sentence.
- Ten-minute meeting prep: "I have a call with this company in ten minutes, what do I need to know?" This converts sceptics faster than anything else, because the alternative is opening four tabs on the way into a meeting.
- The question nobody wants to ask a colleague: "What is the status of this account and who owns it?" Every team has someone asking this in Slack four times a week.
- The shared prompt: save the good version as a custom GPT so the team uses your phrasing rather than inventing their own. This is the piece that makes it stick.
Hard-earned lessons
What we learned the hard way
- Connecting an AI to the CRM does not fix adoption. It relocates the friction from a form to a sentence. Worth doing, but do not sell it internally as the fix.
- Without shared prompts, three people ask the same question three ways and get three answers, then stop trusting all of them.
- Answer quality tracks data quality, not model quality. Unowned deals and stages that mean different things per rep produce confident nonsense.
- Write access should be a later decision, not a setup step. Start read-only.
- The connector cannot build views, automations or schema in Attio. Those are UI-only, same as with Claude.
Case study
Series A B2B team, 9 seats
Problem
Two reps refused to touch the CRM. Notes lived in their heads and in Slack DMs, so account handovers took a week.
Solution
Attio connected to ChatGPT, meeting notes wired into Attio automatically, and four shared prompts saved as a custom GPT.
Outcome
Call logging moved into a window they already had open. The handover question ("what do I need to know about this account") became one prompt instead of a meeting.

Questions we get
Whichever your team already has open. If nobody has either, the tiebreaker is how multi-step your work is: Claude tends to chain several CRM operations in one request more reliably, ChatGPT wins on nobody needing training because it is already installed. It is a much smaller decision than it looks. What determines whether either works is whether your data is clean.
On its own, no. It lowers the cost of logging from a form to a sentence, which helps. But adoption comes from the CRM filling itself from calendar, inbox and meeting notes, with the chat window used for questions rather than data entry.
Both, once you grant write access. We recommend read-only for the first few weeks. A bulk update made on a misread prompt has to be unwound by hand.
No. Connectors are available on paid consumer and business plans. Enterprise matters if you need admin control over which connectors your team can enable, which is worth having once more than a handful of people are connected.
Scope it on the Attio side by connecting with a user whose access is already limited to the objects you are comfortable exposing. The connector inherits that user's permissions rather than granting workspace-wide access independently.
