Permissions, lists, and ownership rules go in first. Each business unit gets its own pipelines, its own views, and its own automations, but they all live in the same workspace so cross-unit reporting still works. We have done this for funds running multiple strategies under one entity and for operating groups with parallel sales motions.
Full export and backup before we touch anything. Then we map every relationship type, including the ones the source CRM stored as fields instead of objects, and rebuild them as proper bidirectional record references in Attio. Email + calendar history syncs forward via a separate integration so you do not lose any historical context. We have moved teams off all three with zero data loss.
Reporting requirements drive the schema, not the other way around. We start every engagement by writing down the exact reports your IC, board, or investors need to see, then build the data model so those reports are one query away. The most expensive mistake we see in CRM rebuilds is teams designing the workspace first and discovering at month three that the reports they need are impossible.
